Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa

With a range of pools, relaxing rock pools, soothing sulphur pools, water jets and bubbles, all set at a range of temperatures, the thermal pools & spa are the perfect place to relax and pamper yourself. Plus, there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained, with an activity pool and water slides, and there’s garden picnic areas, a café and grill.

Free walk ways & mountain bike trails

Surrounded by lush nature, Hanmer Springs has a wide choice of well-marked walking and bike trails. Among the most popular walks are Conical Hill, a short 1-hour track that finishes with a stunning view, or the shorter Woodland Walk which takes you through impressive forest areas. Some tracks traverse the Heritage Forest Area, with exotic trees planted over 100 years ago, other tracks pass through pockets of native mountain beech. For mountain bikers there’s numerous all-weather single tracks, which range from scenic beginner's trails through to trails for the experts.

Llama trekking

From a gentle stroll followed by a picnic lunch to a multi-day trek through stunning scenery, a llama trek is a great way to see the scenic areas surrounding Hanmer Springs. The llama boys carry everything, making it ideal for people who might be concerned about their fitness level.

Hanmer Farm Park

The perfect place for children and adults. Set in 20 acres, and surrounded by spectacular mountain view, the park is just 15 minutes walk from town. Meet sheep, lambs, goats, pigs, ponies, donkeys, llamas, alpacas, yaks, emus, wallabies, deer and more. Plus there’s a café, children’s play area, and outdoor picnic tables

A club field offering a low-key, cost-effective friendly skiing experience located just 17k from Hanmer Springs. With a variety of groomed runs, beginners’ areas, and hyphenated areas, there’s something for all stages of skill.

Jet boating

You can enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Waiau River with an exhilarating jet boat ride through the narrow gorges, white water rapids, and braided shallows. The thrilling 60-minute ride includes 360 degree spins.

Bungy jumping

For those after an adrenaline high, try bungy jumping from the historic Ferry Bridge, surrounded by idyllic alpine scenery. Tandem jump options are also available.

Quad biking

Ride through mud, streams, forests and over rocks on a two-hour quad biking trek. Guides take you through all that the exciting alpine area has to offer, and the trips are suitable for everyone aged over six.

Hanmer Springs Golf Club has some of North Canterbury's finest scenery. The perfectly manicured browntop grass provides standard playing condition all year, and the course layout is suitable for all ages and abilities. It’s open to visitors, green fee players and corporate groups.
